OPENING NIGHT

Well, it’s come and gone, the opening night of the last production of the 53 RD season, Cinderella, and WOW, I have to say, what a remarkable nearly sold out house, with 171 (est.) of the 188 seats filled. That number rivals the normal last performance push to get in to see a great show. Another great thing to see were many brand new faces in the crowd, thanks for visiting us at FCT! The rest of the run is looking very well attended too, if you haven’t gotten your reservation in, don’t delay, the best seats are going fast! Only 6 performances for this musical so don’t be fooled into thinking your going to wait until the third weekend to get your ticket.
What brought out such a large crowd tonight?.. the kids?.. the familiar name show?…HOW ABOUT OUR NEW SIGN????
The old sign at the corner of Cedar and Dickinson has been in a very sad state for years now, quite a disgrace with peeling paint, leaning support posts and in general a very tired out dated look. Although many have thought it, I credit Donna W with expressing her concerns over its appearance and how that reflects on FCT, so finally, with the help of the great FCT audiences and their contributions through the 50’50 drawings, a brand new, bright, solid, straight sign with a new easy to change banner system has been installed, thanks to Tim, Hank and even myself, for braving a recent rain storm to get it in the ground before Cinderella opened. The board feels the new sign with the same familiar look but updated with a slightly more contemporary style and the improvements in how the banners can be printed and installed, and promotion of the web site, will only help improve FCT’s image in the community. Next up the lighted marquee in front of the theatre, lets hope that can be in by Beauty and the Beast or the opening of the 09-10 season at least.
OK, back to Cinderella, I can’t express how good it feels to walk into the theatre and see so many people coming together for the common goal of “putting it all together”. So many ages, personalities and levels of experience working as one, with a mission on their minds, to entertain the public and have fun while doing it. There are just some really fun people in this show and nice too, that kind of makes my smile inside, thanks all!
It was a jumping place tonight, add together with opening night excitement , the teens have set up a display and are promoting their summer show with a special costume sponsorship program, donate $ 5, 10, 25.. ( or more) to help offset the cost of renting the professionally built specialty costumes needed for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and get program acknowledgement plus a chance to win 2 free tickets to the show. Season tickets went on sale too, despite the fact that nearly everything else has gone up in price, our prices are going to remain the same, when you come to see Cinderella, pick ours up then, or watch your mail soon for all the forms you’ll need to get your tickets for FCT’s 54 TH season.
Many of us went to the 818 Club for a opening night celebration, wow, we had quite the crowd there too, always accommodating we gladly support our supporters. The food, drinks and fellowship were all very nice, just another fun part of being a member of FCT!
As much as I’d like to go on with how enjoyable the show was tonight and how the audience loved it, how the step family “stole” the show, while the beautiful Cinderella and handsome prince met, fell in love and even married within two hours, while the lively chorus sang and danced throughout…. it’s late and I need some Zzzzz.
…and now, On With the Show !
