Sometimes..ok..most times you have to make due with what you have either for time or budget restraints. Todays challenge was to create two shower heads for a :”wonky beach shower” First we took some plumbing hangers that normally go in a basement and hang from the ceiling and support hoses etc. We had used these before as faucets in the men’s room scene in HOW TO SUCCEED, this time to beef them up just a bit, we wired them together
then after scouring the shop for something the shape we wanted for the shower head itself, we settled on a Stryofoam coffee cup!
we attach the cup
a quick coat of silver spray paint and, viola! ..instant, 30 foot rule shower heads!
What’s the lesson to learn here? Don’t let anything stand in the way of your mission as long as you have one bit of imagination left to use! and FYI, I was not responsible for the building of this, I left that to Harley, job well done!
While I am busy building and decorating the BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS set for FCT, I also am designing and building for OHHS’s MIDSUMMER JERSEY. Today was another day of always trying to repurpose so I thought I’d share some of today’s successes. The set calls for the backdrop of a boardwalk with the usual amusement park items.
Several years ago an over 8 foot logo of the Worldwide Wickets was designed for HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS, then it appeared as a set piece for ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, then another appearance in ANYTHING GOES as a lounge set piece, now it is once again transformed into a Ferris wheel, while still not complete, here’s a few progress pictures.
this was half of the original piece
some of the piece is cut away
supports are added to begin the look that will eventually become the giant wheel.
Tomorrow I will show how we transformed plumbing hangers and Styrofoam cups into a shower head!
Director Jan Wilcox and her crew of many, thank all the patrons who braved some of this year’s coldest weather so far to be warmed by the emotional and funny story of BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS.
