Darla directs as Linda plays for the veranda Concert singers
Over 20 FCT members and teens have gathered the last few nights to rehearse for what will be the presentation at the Hayes Center Veranda Concert , Wed. June 10.
We have had quite the ride getting a show put together for this concert. First of course, as always, we wanted to perform songs from the spring musical, this year Cinderella. Rodgers and Hammerstein said yes , we could do 4 or so songs, then they changed their mind and said we could not perform any songs from the show.
So next we thought the teens could preview Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Music Theatre International first said we could maybe do 20 minutes, then Disney promised for sure that we could, then they changed their mind again and said NO to any cuttings of the show.
Wow, just what a confusing irritating mess. We have paid the full performance rights for the show , we just want to do a small sneak peek at it so more people will come to see it. I don’t fully understand and most likely never will how it is the publishing houses mind work and what the authors have to lose by a concert of this sort. I understand if we were charging for this performance but its FREE. We don’t even want to do the whole show, we have less than an hour to fill. I plain and simple don’t get it, after talking to the guy from Disney who seemed to be on our side after much discussion (at least for awhile) as to how this all worked, I get the impression that it might be as simple our choice of words in trying to secure these rights. I could rant more about this but I am still trying to get a handle around it all so I’ll save that for another day.
Regardless, it looks like this all might end being a good thing, it will get us up off our butts and work harder to put Curtain Call back together so we can promote ourselves with the best advertising we have .. us!
This year we are going to be performing a review of crowd favorite selections, and work is already begun to develop more of these theme shows we can do for other functions.
Until then, if you have next Wed. June 10 free about 7 PM, come on down to the Hayes center for a wonderful free concert. Many old and some faces will be doing their best to entertain.
