AVENUE Q Auditions

It’s that time again, time for FCT’s first auditions of the 2022/2023 season!
Director Tracy Armentrout invites everyone to come out & audition for the wonderful “Rated R” musical comedy “AVENUE Q” which will be performed September 30 – October 2 and October 7 – 9.

Auditions will take place at FCT starting at 7:00 PM on both July 24 th & 25. th
This laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show where puppets are friends, Monsters are good, and life lessons are learned. Unknown to many people, Avenue Q beat out “Wicked” winning the 2004 Tony awards for Best Musical, Best Music and Best Story.

Auditioners should be aware that this colorful cast of characters (and yes, these are “all” wonderful character roles) are an exuberant and fun non-apologetic mix of puppet and human characters that (often) use offensive language. Puppet sexual content, and most likely puppet nudity, is also involved. All puppet roles require interesting puppet voices as well as a committed focus on their puppet and it’s humanized acting.

Puppetry training will be provided. Auditioners should come prepared to sing at least 16 bars from a song of their choice, one that showcases their vocal range and ability, and should also bring a copy of their chosen music to the audition. Auditioners may also be asked to learn fragments of a song that could show off a particular character’s voice. We hope to see you there!

A cast of characters list is noted below, but first, here’s a sneak peak (from a prior show they were in) of some of the Mary Nagler created puppets that we will be using. Also noted are a few of the catchy songs from the show that we’re sure you’re going to love!

“What Do You Do With A BA In English”
“It Sucks To Be Me”
“If You Were Gay”
“Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist”
