May Board meeting

Tonight was our monthly board meeting, normally every 3rd Tuesday of the month the 9 board members gather to discuss what has happened and needs to happen around the theatre and in general take care of the “business” end of the “show business”. May marks the month when the new board members elected in April for the following season, 08-09, are invited as guests to observe…well .. basically what they have gotten themselves into for the nest year, so we had a nice full house tonight with 3 new members and a few guests too. It also marked the last full meeting as the current chairman of the board that I have to run, I guess I’m somewhat sad about that , I have really enjoyed trying to sort through the multitude of brownie recipes, baby stories, aches and pains and so many of the other colorful discussions we can sometimes get off topic on, but it is very nice when we all do pull together like a “community” and make decisions that we feel are going to be positive and constructive to the well being in general for FCT.
Randy gave his GUYS AND DOLLS wrap up, over all even though there were some tough times and it was a long process, he was generally pleased with the cast and crew and from the nearly up to date records, it should have made a nice profit. Attendance figures were good overall with of course the last weekend really taking off well.
Discussion followed that remember, next year all FCT productions including the 2 musicals will only run for 6 shows over 2 weekends, this makes it very important that everyone do their part to remind our patrons about this change and to highly encourage them to not wait till the last weekend or day of the show, because if we maintain good quality show values and early word of mouth advertising, there just plain wont be room for everybody, then we will be forced to turn away even season ticket holders and this is not a situation we want to occur.
As the end of this season is quickly approaching most committee reports were tabled until new chairpersons are appointed or major work on them begins.
Tim reported on the early stages of GREASE rehearsals and from the sound coming from the lobby, they are sounding pretty good already!
Via email Liz handed out the Laurel and Stanley ballots, don’t forget the annual awards banquet is June 28 at the Fremont holiday inn. FCT members watch the mail for your invitation .
But before that we have the northwest OCTA regional in Lima June 13 and 14, and the veranda concert at the Hayes center June 11.
…and now, On With the Show !

On With The Show

Well, well, welcome to my blog! There’s so much to cover I think I’ll just run through a quick list…
1) First off, I know I have some explaining to do, as you notice in the headline above it says FCT “president”, I’m not trying to jump the gun here or anything and with no offense to our current prez Tim, I won’t be leaving the chairman of the board position behind me and officially be the new president until mid June, but it was easier to just put that up there for now instead of changing it in a month.
2) You might be thinking ” what’s this crazy bald guy doing with a blog?” or even ” what is a blog?” well, this “online diary” of sorts, is going to be my chance to keep members and others up to date on all the going-on’s at FCT. Audition reminders and results, how rehearsals are going, what areas might still need some help, news flashes of all sorts, reviews of shows, other area theatre happenings, even some backstage stories from the Broadway series and other special shows at the Stranahan Theater where some of you may know I work part time.
Sure we have our excellent printed and online versions of the FCT newsletter (thanks to Scott) and the rest of the official web site (thanks to Jim) which offers you most all the info you need for keeping up to date on what has or is happening at the theatre but this is my chance to do some quick and immediate updating of info, so I encourage you to stop back here often or even daily ( my hope) and see what I have to say. And boy do I have some things to say…if you’ve noticed my columns in the newsletter, due to space restraints, I can’t begin to cover my interest in sharing with all of you the many aspects of what goes into bringing live theatre to the stage show after show, so much work by so many people, on stage and off.
The 07-08 season is now nearly over, all 5 shows have some and gone and before we will know it, it will be time for the FCTT production of GREASE to be upon us.
There’s going to be some good and some rough times ahead, but nothing that we can’t all pull through if we try. Financial times are always a challenge, we are facing an “active” membership decline and gas prices alone may make it harder for members to be at the theatre all the time, another good reason to check in to my blog hare and keep up on what I can pass on to you!
I have high hopes that we can have the best of a new season ahead of us and there are quite a few surprises planned along the way, be sure to watch them be revealed here first on the CBG blog!
